Monthly charge
Prices quoted are in New Zealand dollars and exclude GST (payable by NZ residents). All charges are due in advance. We accept credit cards (Mastercard and Visa), cheques or direct credits to our bank account.

Setup fee
Prices quoted are in New Zealand dollars and exclude GST (payable by NZ residents). The setup fee is a one-off charge and it is waived if you transfer your site from another ISP. You can change plans at any time without incurring additional setup fees.

Server type
This is the operating system running on the server where your site will be hosted. Both UNIX and Windows NT servers provide a quality service, however we choose to base our network on Microsoft Windows NT. This means we can provide full support for popular Microsoft applications such as MS Access, MS SQL, ASP and VBScript, our NT packages are just as accessible to entry-level webmasters as they are to senior NT developers and administrators. Popular tools like Cold Fusion by Allaire are also supported. Sites built with ASP or Coldfusion are highly scalable and can often be built in much shorter periods of time when compared with similar products.

Virtual hosting
Virtual hosting refers to how people will access your web site - virtually hosted sites are accessed using your domain name i.e. www.yourcompany.co.nz. Non-virtual web sites are usually accessed with addresses like www.yourisp.co.nz/yourcompany/. The cost of a domain name is minimal and we don't think you should even consider using a non-virtual web site so we don't offer it as a service! One major advantage of a virtually hosted site is that it is totally portable - if you need to move to another ISP you take your name with you, after all you own it - this can save you a fortune in reprinting letterheads, business cards, advertisements, etc.

Additional domain pointers
Many companies choose to register several domain names. For example you might register your company name, trading name(s), product, service or brand(s). Additional domain pointers allow you to point these additional domain names to the same web site.

Data transfer
This is the amount of data transferred to viewers of your site. Every time someone views your web site a certain amount of data will be transferred in the form of text, graphics, etc. We do not meter data transfer; however this is a significant element of our costs and owners of very busy sites will most likely receive a call from us to discuss the options available. A very busy site can have a detrimental effect on other sites hosted on a shared server, and also a very busy site may experience performance problems itself. If your site is a great success you will not want to lose your customers because of performance issues, which is why we operate this policy - it ensures everyone gets a fair deal and it also ensures we maintain a quality service at all times.

Domain e-mail
A domain e-mail box collects all mail for all users into a single mailbox. You collect this mail with any standard e-mail program or you can use a mail server to collect and distribute the e-mail to individual users at your end. If you need help choosing or setting up a mail server please feel free to contact us.

Storage space
This is the amount of disk space you can use on our server.

FREE shopping cart
NetSmart has developed a very simple, easy to use shopping cart system which can be integrated into any web site. You can find out more about SmartCart here.

FTP
FTP or File Transfer Protocol is the standard way to upload your web site to a server. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Unless you are using MS FrontPage, this is how you will upload your site.

Daily backup
Our servers and all web sites are backed up daily. If you have a disaster and need to restore your site from backup this can be arranged for a small fee.

FREE support
You can e-mail us at any time for help or support with our hosting service.

Statistics server
Quality information about who is using your web site is a valuable marketing tool. We run Mediahouse Statistics Server, which we believe to be among the very best available. You can log in to your statistics server at any time. It will provide you with a wealth of information on who is using your web site, where they are from, how they found you, how long they stayed, which pages they viewed and much more. You can even use this package to track your on-line advertising and monitor its effectiveness.

ASP
Active Server Pages (ASP) is a Microsoft product which allows you to run commands on the server at the time your web page is requested. You could use this to write an interactive web site or perform a database query and return the results. ASP pages can be written in a variety of programming languages including Visual Basic and Java.

VBScript
Visual Basic Scripting allows you to run server-side scripts and produce dynamic web sites.

MS Visual InterDev
This is a web development tool produced by Microsoft.

ColdFusion
Coldfusion is a simple (but very powerful) scripting language. Just like html it is a tag based language and it is therefore easier to learn than many other scripting languagues. If you are serious about building web sites we suggest you find out more about Coldfusion.

Database integration
Produce fully database-driven web sites using familiar database applications like MS Access. Other Windows based databases, such as MS FoxPro, are available on request - please contact us if you are unsure whether we support your chosen database.

FrontPage extensions
Windows NT is the only operating system that supports FrontPage fully. If you wish to use FrontPage as your web site development tool please tell us when you order your web site. If you switch to FrontPage in the future just give us a call and we will turn on FrontPage support for your web site.

SSL secure server
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encrypts all data between the server and client browser - this means that all communication over the internet is scrambled and therefore secure from snoopers who might be listening in. To use SSL under your own domain name you will need to purchase a SSL server certificate from an internet certificate authority such as Thawte. Alternatively, you can make use of our SSL certificate by using a sub-directory of our web site - this means your SSL connections will go to www.netsmart.co.nz/clientssl/yourcompany/ or something similar.
